About Design Style Book

Design Style Book is a visual reference for the world's design styles, across architecture, graphic design, and typography. For each style it lays out the defining features, when and where it appeared, the real work that shows it best, and prompt-ready vocabulary for describing the look.

It's built for the curious — students, designers, photographers, travellers, and anyone who has ever looked at a building or a poster and wondered what to call it. The encyclopedia is free and open to browse, and styles link across disciplines where movements overlap.

Each section's browser is the place to start — search by name, filter by movement, era, region, or formal traits, and follow the links between related styles.

How it's sourced

Example images come from public-domain and open-license sources, with the source, license, and attribution recorded for every image and shown wherever the license requires it. Where a style's landmark works are still under copyright — as many 20th-century graphic works are — we show an original specimen designed in that style rather than reproduce a protected work. Read the full provenance & legal notice for details, including how to request a takedown.

This is an educational and reference resource. It is not affiliated with any of the designers, architects, owners, or institutions whose work is shown.
