About the style
Acid graphics, or 'acid design,' is a maximalist contemporary style that surged in the early 2020s as a reaction against the minimalism of corporate flat design, fusing late-1990s/Y2K nostalgia with rave and psychedelic energy. Its hallmark is liquid chrome—mirror-finish, distorted metallic lettering and 3D objects that look molten and reflective—combined with warped, oily gradients, lens-distorted type, holographic and iridescent textures, and densely layered, clashing compositions. The aesthetic is intentionally loud, glossy, and slightly nauseating in its excess, channeling club-flyer chaos through modern 3D and image-warping tools. Driven by designers on social platforms and album-art and fashion branding, it signals an underground, post-digital sensibility. Acid graphics revive the anti-corporate exuberance of older rave aesthetics while leaning hard on contemporary chrome-rendering and distortion techniques.
